Just Transition

  • The Journey Fund leverages decades of impact and sustainability investing experience to generate attractive returns and enhanced social, environmental, and economic outcomes to create a regenerative future for all.

Origin & Purpose

Emerging markets hold the greatest untapped potential for holistic investment in a just transition — The Journey Fund is designed to unlock that potential. The fund blends catalytic and commercial capital to turn high-impact opportunities into scalable, investable assets.

Approach

A multi-thematic strategy focused on regions committed to a just transition away from fossil fuels offers investors attractive returns compliant with Article 9 of SFDR, meeting the needs of people and our planet. By pairing global commercial discipline with local expertise, the fund lowers origination costs and establishes a model for capital deployment at speed and scale across geographies.

Co-investments from regional independent institutions, both public and private, and clear policy signals and commitments from governments help de-risk investment in markets by aligning public and private interests in the success of just transition projects.

Structure

The Journey Fund operates
as a global fund-of-funds platform.

The umbrella fund collaborates with select regional investment managers dedicated to high-quality private market impact investing, under unified standards for governance, impact measurement, and reporting.

Global Reach

The Journey Fund targets emerging and frontier markets — initially Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and Africa, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The global platform and its regional sub-funds provide diversified exposure across geographies, currencies, and asset classes.

The global portfolio manager (GP) works closely with regional managers on capital allocation and investments across energy and infrastructure assets, early stage and growth companies, and mature, buyout, and pre-IPO companies — all aligned with the fund's purpose of advancing a just transition, cultivating bio-economies rooted in regenerative solutions and long-term equitable wealth generation.

The LatAm Blueprint

Latin America (LatAm) needs over $150 billion annually for clean energy but currently receives less than 15% of the resources required, indicating a significant market gap.

The price tag reflects the projected 90% increase in Latin America’s electricity demand by 2050 — one of the fastest growth rates worldwide.

Pilot fund:
Colombia

Colombia exemplifies a strong test case for investment thanks to its long-term commitment to a just transition and bi-partisan support for blended financing of clean energy projects.

Project Pipeline

The Journey Fund focuses on energy, regenerative agriculture, and infrastructure as the foundation of a just transition—specifically, investments in clean energy, energy efficiency, infrastructure, food systems, and other nature-based solutions that improve community health and well-being, and provide new economic opportunities.

This core focus is complemented by a holistic approach to the broader just transition value chain, encompassing responsible consumer industries, mobility solutions, social infrastructure and housing, as well as circular economy models.

The LatAm blueprint is built to showcase the viability of a just transition project pipeline, building on the continent's potential to grow bio-economies with the potential to scale investment in regenerative solutions.

Civil Society Partnership

The Journey Fund is developed in partnership with and in support of the Fossil Fuel Treaty, a proposed plan for a global just transition to phase out fossil fuels. While the Treaty initiative advances the political vision for international cooperation on ending the extraction of fossil fuels, the Journey Fund complements it by directing capital toward Treaty-participating jurisdictions in post-fossil economy projects, proving how finance matching political signals can build just economies forever.

Showcasing material economic upside of a just energy transition:

-Private investment mobilization

-Long-term energy savings and security

-Local community energy access and impact

-New generational wealth opportunities

-Environmental & health co-benefits
